Riverbed and SHI, Independently Advised the Customer to Look at Keysight Network Visibility Solutions
The faster things move, the more IT teams need to see everything happening in their network to avoid threats and performance issues. One prominent southeastern credit union took an important step to ensure a smooth transition of its network to high-speed 10G and 40G links: they upgraded their visibility and monitoring infrastructure at the same time.
The 90-year-old enterprise with more than 1M members had a competing visibility architecture in place but its IT team suspected its network packet brokers (NPBs) were dropping traffic. Sending incomplete data to monitoring tools like Riverbed’s AppResponse ran the risk of missing security threats and compromised the value of investments in monitoring tools into the bargain.
The Quest Begins
The quest to upgrade its network visibility proactively began with looking for a better class of packet brokers, one that would keep pace with the demands of high-speed networks as the company modernized its main data centers. Goals for the visibility upgrade included:
- Eliminating visibility blind spots to avoid risk
- Capturing all relevant traffic without dropping packets
- Achieving more and better visibility in cloud environments
- Streamlining compliance
- Facilitating scale as the network evolves to higher speeds
At the end of the day, they wanted a modern, high-speed, reliable, and easy to use visibility platform—one that could meet the unique requirements of the financial services industry.
Financial Services Providers Need Hybrid Solutions
Like many modern financial services providers, the credit union operates SaaS-based productivity applications like Teams and Salesforce for internal use but maintains sensitive customer data in on-premise systems. They wanted one visibility solution that could cover everything efficiently and also be easier to configure and manage than the previous solution.
Happy with its existing monitoring technologies, the IT team consulted Riverbed and also reached out to SHI, a trusted local IT solution provider, for suggestions on upgrading their old packet brokers.
All Roads Led to Keysight
Riverbed and SHI, two longtime Keysight alliance partners, independently advised the customer to check out Keysight network visibility solutions. Engineers from Keysight stood up a quick product demonstration featuring a Vision 400 packet broker connected to Riverbed’s AppResponse solution and to Keysight CloudLens virtual visibility.
The demo proved the Keysight network visibility platform could deliver complete insight across hybrid environments — without ever dropping a packet. When everything worked as expected, the credit union moved forward with the visibility upgrade—and the high-speed network upgrade—adding Keysight taps to capture and send traffic to physical and virtual packet brokers.
The new platform delivers a complete, unified network and cloud visibility architecture that feeds reliable data to Riverbed AppResponse and other monitoring and security tools located in both data centers and private or public clouds. Well-orchestrated visibility can be counted on to send actionable data to Riverbed tools and the rest of the company’s monitoring infrastructure. With the right data, monitoring tools achieve reliable, cost-efficient analysis to help the credit union’s own team spot threats and avoid application performance problems.
Ease of use wins the day
The upgrade also overcomes ongoing challenges the credit union’s team was having with configuring and scaling visibility. With the prior vendor, the team frequently had to call in and pay for expensive ad hoc professional services that shouldn’t have been needed in the first place.
Known for industry-best ease of use, the Keysight platform drives higher performance and scalability without ongoing professional services needed to keep the lights on.
What Happens Next?
As digital business continues to grow, the credit union’s network modernization project may progress to additional data centers throughout its southeast serving region. In the meantime, the company plans to continue relying on integration expertise from SHI, monitoring analytics from Riverbed, and a foundation of reliable network insights delivered by Keysight.
